We are thrilled to share that Grovely State School has been named one of only 20 schools across Australia to receive a $5,000 sustainability grant in the Coles and Planet Ark Sustainable Schools Competition. This national initiative encourages students to dream big, think creatively, and turn practical ideas into meaningful environmental action.

Schools from bustling cities to tiny rural townships submitted projects for consideration, with proposals judged by a panel of sustainability experts and educators. Each winning school demonstrated exceptional potential for lasting environmental impact — and Grovely proudly stood among them.

Our project focuses on supporting and regenerating habitat for the remarkable Richmond Birdwing Butterfly, an iconic species native to southeast Queensland whose survival depends on the Richmond Birdwing Vine. With the awarded funds, our students will establish a living habitat corridor featuring Richmond Birdwing Vines, pollinator-friendly native species, and a native stingless beehive. This initiative will not only strengthen biodiversity on our school grounds but also provide authentic, real-world learning for students in conservation, ecology, and stewardship.

Grovely’s success has already gained attention, recently featuring in both the Courier-Mail and Echo News, shining a light on the powerful environmental leadership of our students.

This exciting project is a true celebration of The Grovely Way: Work Hard. Be Kind. Stay Safe.

Congratulations to everyone involved — we can’t wait to see our garden grow and flutter with new life!
